- Katherine wants the cure to use as leverage. She almost steals the cure from Elena but while thinking she had her least favorite doppelganger pinned down well enough, Elena manages to shove the cure into her mouth and force her to drink it.
- Katherine's a human and Silas is hunting her because as a doppelganger who took the cure, the entirety of her blood is now a full dose of the cure. She's used as leverage in various ways, all while totally enjoying a human again!! (not) The perks of being human are getting sick, being weak, not healing after injuries. All that fun stuff.
- She meets a female vampire, named Nadia, who tries to use her as leverage on Silas; then, against Silas once that douchebag ends up betraying Nadia. She's important later, too.
- Tricked into going to the Salvatore House for Random Reason A, she finds a desiccated Silas and thinks that he's dead so woohoo. In actuality, Damon lured her there so that Silas could drink from her and get his witchy powers back. She "dies" but comes back right away because apparently that's going to be a common theme in the only-ever drinker of the cure nearly dying.
- Once alive again, she has nowhere to go. Stefan is useless because of amnesia. Damon kicked her out of the house because he's a jerk. So, she goes to where Caroline and Elena are attending college and invites herself to stay there. Elena is with Damon doing things and stuff that relate to plot that doesn't matter in this instance, and she manages to convince Caroline that she can help her with a professor that they're suspicious of.
Professor happens to be someone who has been trying to wipe vampires out for reasons and stuff that go deeper than this timeline cares to explain. Katherine gets him to help her try to find a way to stop the super accelerated aging that she's undergoing.
Yes, that's right. Since she was drained by Silas + was past the normal life expectancy of a human when she took the cure, she's aging. Super duper fast. Her hair is slowly turning gray, thick chunks at a time. A tooth fell out when she was eating.
He tells her there's no way to help her, and that she likely has a couple of months to live. - If anyone thought that Katherine Pierce couldn't accept the inevitable, they'd be wrong. After doing some things and stuff, she ends up deciding to jump off a clock tower in town. Stefan catches her.
All in all, she's accepted her own state of humanity and that she'll die sooner rather than later. - SPOILER ALERT: Aforementioned Nadia is Katherine's daughter who got herself turned when she was thirty and then spent her entire life trying to hunt down Katherine. To get to know her, etc.
Nadia and her bond on various levels, and they discuss Traveller magic. Papa Petrova was a Traveller, thus Kat's human self has the capacity to do such magic. Nadia suggests that Katherine find a host body to continue her life in. - Katherine has a heart attack and is thereafter on the brink of death. Nadia found a Traveller to teach Katherine the mentioned spell and offered her own body as a host for Katherine.
Katherine refuses to take that life away from her daughter.
After Katherine has had mind torture from Damon in her throes of death, compassionate and loving mind dreams from Stefan, she's almost dead. Then her bff Elena comes to see her, etc and Elena tells her that she forgives her.
In a turn of events that literally everyone was hopefully expecting, Katherine takes over Elena's body. What was that about a change of heart, oh ye Mystic Falls crew?
Briefest of timelines for the sake of things and stuff, specifically for Ilhas
